Leapfrog Tag Reading system is sold as a revolutionary new product to get kids to learn to read. With the help of an easy to use light pen, ads and reviews say, your child can enjoy the history of the book and be taught each word individually as it progresses, have fun and learn all at the same time. But is that really what's going on? Does your child is perhaps having a little fun with his book "I've watched my daughter to have his book for a few days and now I have to say, as a parent, it is easy to develop this concern.
You might think, and with justification perfectly well that the time spent with a book to read tags do not ultimately prove to be as educational as it is supposed to be. After all, what you are doing your child when he plays with a reading book Tag? He is just pushing the page in different places and get fun things to happen. It is entirely possible that he can simply ignore the part of reading, and focus entirely on hearing the story, to find all the strange sounds and fun secret things you can find, and just generally have fun. Tag Reading could actually end up as just another "TV"?
Wait a second, however. I try to think about when you were a child. When were the times that you learned the most in the easiest and fastest way? Was when you were sitting at a desk at school, all focused and assisted by their teacher and are expected to "learn"? Or was it when you were at home, distracted by something new that had caught his attention on all his own when he was experimenting and trying things and see what happened? I know what the answer for me, I learned more and more easy when I was not expecting or looking to learn anything.
I learned most of my geography, for example, to play Where in the World is Carmen San Diego, a game that has a touch almost incidental to really learn something. It was all about fun and yet I still have a lot from it. And in geography class, well, I muted.
Moreover, the Tag Reading System is much more than just reading. As a child plays with his books, he explores, takes the initiative and assume responsibility for their part in the story progresses. These are abstract, difficult to quantify things, and yet the books are good to bring them out.
So yes, if you are a parent who cares about tag reading and "good" it really is, I would encourage you to try it, and you know what, have confidence, not in books but in budding intelligence your child a lot and ability to take note of it the most fun, craziest places possible. It is wrong.
